Whether she works in clay or paint or sculptural materials, Carol takes her inspiration from the natural world around her. A hike in the dense forests or along the rocky coastline never fails to engender a sense of openness and clarity. The rocks, the trees, the lichens and mosses, the surf, the sound of creeks laden with water after a rain…all these sensory experiences guide the outcome of her work.
The work Carol produces in black clay is usually slab and/or coil-built, then fired in an electric kiln. This clay reacts interestingly with white glazes in particular, resulting in one of a kind functional ware.
