About the Artist:

Carol Demers is a Vancouver based artist.

Whether she works in clay or paint or sculptural materials, Carol takes her inspiration from the natural world around her. A hike in the dense forests or along the rocky coastline never fails to engender a sense of openness and clarity. The rocks, the trees, the lichens and mosses, the surf, the sound of creeks laden with water after a rain…all these sensory experiences guide the outcome of her work. 

In her smoke fired ceramics, Carol coil-builds organic forms in porcelain, then burnishes the clay with a stone to produce a soft, smooth texture with a fine sheen. The work is then fired in wood and sawdust with the addition of dried plant materials, oxides and minerals. This low fire technique results in unique ware intended for decorative use.
